Thanks to all the players, we had a smashing Badminton season this year. There were players who have not played on a
team before and were able to develop and build their confidence with the skills and strategies of doubles play. The more
experienced players worked during practice and helped other team members. During the CISAA tournament, we had
some challenging competition and had 2 medal placements in girls singles and doubles. We had greater success in the
CAAA tournament, where almost all our grade 9 players won a medal position. We also earned the banner for Girls and
came second in the Boys categories.
I would like to thank all the parents for their support and players for their enthusiasm with the sport. Until next year, keep
playing Badminton whenever you get a chance!
Cheers

There were some changes this year as Mr. Broughton stepped down after 4 years of coaching and Mr. Lamb taking his
place. The shake-up brought many positives, not the least of which was Mr. Lamb’s infectious energy and sense of
humour. Various members of the team attended 3 tournaments at Strathmore, Crescent Heights and Calgary Academy.
The competition was especially strong at Strathmore and Crescent Heights as per usual but our team was competitive
overall. These tournaments help prepare us for CISAA every year making us more competitive and better conditioned on
the court. This year, we had 4 athletes move on to Zones by placing either 2nd or 3rd overall in CISAA. Jubin Reji narrowly
missed Gold as he was undefeated the entire day, but ran out of gas in the final match to lose to an opponent that he
defeated earlier in the day. Sherri Luu was strong as in the last 2 years and took Silver. Berkat Sidhu was a new addition
to the team and won Silver as well with Dhairya Desai winning Bronze.
All 4 athletes were competitive at Zones but succumbed to top calibers.
